The Lahore Resolution of 1940
The Lahore Resolution, passed on March 23, 1940, represents the single most important document in the lead up to Pakistan’s independence. Drafted by the working committee of the Muslim League, it proposed that independent states should be formed for the Muslim majorities in South Asia.
Role of Jinnah
Muhammad Ali Jinnah presided over the historic session where Fazlul Huq presented the resolution. The declaration unified Muslim opinion and set a clear destination for the political movement.
Minar-e-Pakistan
Today, the Minar-e-Pakistan stands tall in Iqbal Park, Lahore, at the exact site where Jinnah delivered his address and the resolution was adopted.
